About Domain Names

Domain-namesYour online success starts with your domain. We help you to find and manage your perfect Internet address.

Benefit from our know-how and good relationships with leading domain registries in order to establish your name on the Internet.

We will discuss transfering an existing domain name as we prepare to get your Internet Presence online.  In the event that you presently have a website, and this is either an upgrade, or a replacement, then we want to at least use the search power of that old domain name for at least a year.  If you would like more information about why you need a domain name, please read this informative artilce.

FAQS

What is a domain name?

A domain name is a translation for a specific IP address. Your web pages are hosted on physical servers who each have their unique IP address e.g. 207.142.131.236 (4 groups of 3 digits, each with a maximum value of 255).  Because it would be very difficult to remember all these IP addresses, they are linked to domain names e.g. yourdomain.be.   When you type in your browser’s address bar hostbasket.com, your computer connects to a DNS server (read more: name servers). These name servers hold enormous tables with domain names and their associated IP address. Name servers link those pairs of data.

We recently increased our costs on the domain name element of your packages: (Remember that the domain name is included in your annual fee.)

The registries have raised their prices for domains several times in the past few years but we did not pass all price increases to you. Please keep in mind that our Domains are all inclusive, with the ICANN fee and private domain registration already included. Compare below – we've kept costs as low as possible!

Why do I need a domain name?

Thanks to your own unique domain name (e.g.: myname.be) your website is always easy to find and you can personalize your e-mail addresses. If you want to be easy to reach and to contact it is absolutely essential that you have your own domain name.

Companies should have their domain name and brand name on the Internet. They are an identity by which your customers, relations and the rest of the world will recognize you.

Does my domain name include an email address?

Each domain name includes email forwards (e.g. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>>This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) If someone sends an e-mail at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and you reply to this e-mail, this person will see your yahoo address and not the address with your domain name.

Please note that these are just forwards and not hosted mailboxes.  If you prefer professional and reliable mailboxes, we offer you standard POP3 mailboxes as part of web or mail hosting, and access to your own mailbox using a MainXchange Account FREE.

Can I transfer my domain to your service so I have all my information in one place?

We will be notified by email when everything is complete.

Name server 2 ns48.1and1.com
Mail server 1 mx00.1and1.com, 10
Mail server 2 mx01.1and1.com, 10

How long will a Transfer of Registrar take?

A Transfer of Registrar will initiate 5 calendar days after the date we receive your consent for the domain transfer to be completed, as long as there are no issues. If the DNS must change in the process of the transfer, it may take an additional 24-48 hours until the DNS is propagated.

Before initiating a transfer request, please ensure that:

  • The domain to be transferred has not just been registered or transfered in the past 60 days.
  • The contact details (WHOIS info) for the domain are correct and the e-mail contact listed can receive e-mail.
  • The domain has been unlocked for domain transfers.
  • The domain's authorization code (EPP, AuthInfo code, Authorization code, transfer code, transfer secret) has been obtained from the current registrar (if applicable).

We advise you to make sure you start the transfer process at least a month before the expiration date of the domain. Our registrar will not have any control over the domain until it has been fully transferred.

Transfer of Registrar Process Overview

According to the transfer policy, you will need to fill out a Form of Authorization (FOA) to approve the release of your domain name for transferring. Our Registrar will send an e-mail containing the FOA to the domain owner (Registrant-c/Admin-c*) listed for the domain to be transferred. The e-mail contains a link to a website where you can accept or refuse the transfer. This leads to the following 4 possibilities:

1. Domain owner (Registrant-c/Admin-c*) accepts the transfer. The transfer is then initiated.

2. Domain owner (Registrant-c) refuses the transfer. Transfer request is voided.

3. Admin-c refuses the transfer. Domain owner (Registrant-c) and customer (1&1 account holder) are informed of a time period left for the owner to accept the transfer. If the transfer is not accepted by the owner during this time, the transfer request is voided.

4. No response by domain owner (Registrant-c or Admin-c*). The customer is informed and the FOA is re-sent. If there is no response after additional notice, the transfer is voided.

* Sometimes the domain owner (Registrant-c) and Admin-c can be the same person.

In the event we are unable to contact the domain owner via the e-mail contact listed for the domain then the FOA will need to be filled out manually and faxed in by the account owner. The e-mail will contain a PDF version of the FOA. Print and fill out the form with your signature and then fax it to the number listed on the form. You are required to fax a valid form of identification (State ID card, State Driver's License, Passport, etc) with the form.

Please note:

The transfer is initiated as soon as our Registrat obtains consent and there is NO LOCK set on the domain. If there is a LOCK set on the domain, they cannot initiate the transfer process, even if you have approved the transfer request. It will take 5 calendar days for the transfer to complete after initiation and possibly another 24-48 hours for the DNS information to propagate if the DNS was not changed before the transfer. For more information on the transfer process, please visit http://www.icann.org/transfers/index.html

Your dream online application is possible with Joomla!, and CloudAccess.net puts this powerful cloud application in your hands with a click of the mouse.

joomla-overview2

Managing articles is super easy

Using the core Joomla! Article Manager, users can easily create content that is displayed that might be shown in different locations on the page. Articles typically contain some text, pictures or other type of content and for most types of Joomla sites.

The Category Manager exists to help users save Articles logically, so they can come back in the future and do an Article search very effectively. Categories exist primarily in the Administration area (the back end) of your Joomla! site, but sometimes they are used for specific Menu Items or Module types.

joomla-overview3

Joomla! is Search Engine Friendly

There are many powerful tools within your Joomla administration area that allow you to support your own marketing efforts and improve your search engine results. You can optimize your titles, article descriptions, headers, files and even your images to help people find you on the Internet. You can follow all of the best practices of Search Engine Optimization by structuring your URL and developing a long-tail SEO campaign which will ultimately increase your PageRank and improve the popularity of your Joomla site.

joomla-overview4

Add a menu just like that

One of the features that separates Joomla! from other CMS is the versatile Menu system. Site administrators can develop an infinite amount of Menus and Menu Items that have different functionality. Menu Items can be connected to Articles, but core Joomla! functionality also contains registration, login, contact, web link, and other Menu Items to choose from.

joomla-overview5

Manage all of your media in one place

The built in Media Manager supports a variety of different file types that can be displayed or utilized in the site. While most common media types are supported, a file type can easily be added to the Media Manager if you'd like to utilize it within your site. From .pdf documents to video and music files, Joomla! will recognize it.

joomla-overview6

Extensions - unlock the true power of Joomla!

Although the core Joomla! features allow quite a lot of functionality, if there is something that you would like to feature on your site that is not part of the core Joomla! package, there is an Extensions Directory that contains thousands of 3rd party Plugins, Modules, and Components that can be added to the site. The directory - located at extensions.joomla.org - is where users unlock the true potential of Joomla! Extensions generally come with some instructions and extension developers can typically be contacted with questions. An extension may be a very large Component, like a Template, that is added to the site.

Components are robust pieces of software that can be modified in the back end of the site, and users see the Component on the front end. Modules perform specific functions, users can see them on the front end of the site, and the administrator can modify them in the back end, but they are smaller than Components. Plugins are very small pieces of software that can be added to the site they increase the functionality of users in the back end. Users typically only see the effects of the Plugin on the front end. Once installed, Joomla! contains a separate manager for each - a Component Manager, Module Manager, and Plugin Manager - that allows administrator to configure the software for their specifications.

joomla-overview7

Mobile Ready

While Joomla has traditionally looked great on all types of devices, one of the big steps forward taken by Joomla 3.0 is an all new front end design and administrator interface that are entirely mobile ready. Because Joomla! developers adopted the Bootstrap framework, the front end of Joomla websites can display mobile friendly content for visitors and the back end interface incorporates many mobile friendly tools for administrators. Joomla looks great and sites can be developed with ease no matter which type of device is used.

joomla-overview8

The building blocks behind Joomla!

Modules are the building blocks of the visual Joomla! website. Modules can contain customized text and images, but they may also feature calendars, shopping carts, registration forms, video files, image rotators, log in forms, directories, forums and many others. Modules can be placed into a variety of positions on the site depending on the Template being used and positions can easily be changed.

joomla-overview9

Use multilingual capabilities

One of the things that Joomla! focused on with its most recent release was the internationalization of websites and encouraging users and website owners to create sites that can be accessed from anywhere in the world. One of the biggest barriers to that was language accessibility.

The Joomla! Community tackled that head on with the new and refined Language Manager and other multilingual capabilities now available in Joomla! 2.5. Now, webmasters and content creators can create websites to be presented in multiple languages, without ever needing to step outside of the options available in the Joomla! core software. This is a big step forward and represents a set of capabilities that can make websites much more accessible, reaching out to a much larger audience.

joomla-overview10

Thematic Templates - easily change the look & feel of your site

A Template controls the overall look and layout of a site. It provides the framework that brings together common elements, modules and components as well as providing the cascading style sheet for the site. Both the front-end and the back-end of the site have Templates.

When Joomla! is first installed several Templates are automatically included. Users can find many more templates online - some commercial and some noncommercial - and Templates can typically be customized to a certain extent. Templates are managed with the Template Manager in the back end of the site, and in this area users can select and edit default Templates, make copies of Templates, and assign different Templates to different pages.

joomla-overview11

Always up-to-date

The automated notification of Joomla! updates is a new built-in feature that simplifies site maintenance and management of updates. Available as a quick button on the administrative control panel of your Joomla! website, it enables administrators to update a site to the latest stable Joomla! release with just a single click.

joomla-overview12

Global Configuration

As the name implies, Global Configuration is the area of Administration interface where site administrators can make changes that affect the global behavior of the website. All of the parameters for the Site, System, and Server can be configured here and additional Permission levels can also be controlled here.

Our data centers around the world are among the most energy efficient data centers in existence. Our combined global initiatives allow us to prevent 30,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Paperless billing.

All billing statements are sent to customers via e-mail. We've also replaced our welcome packages with information that is available in electronic form. This demonstrateour commitment to minimizing our environmental impact.

Responsible office practices.

In our corporate offices we participate in the community recycling program, and have choosen reusable kitchen items, as opposed to using paper or plastic cups and utensils.

Our Hosting Company

has partnered with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) to offset 100% of the energy usage of our data center in Lenexa, Kansas by purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). The majority of the RECs will be sourced from the Bowersock Mills and Power Company’s hydroelectric facility in Lawrence, Kansas. This hydroelectric facility is certified low impact by the Low Impact Hydro Institute (LIHI).

Renewable energy purchase for the facility is enough clean energy to power at least 300 U.S. homes for one year!

Working in tandem with Green-e, the nation's leading voluntary certification program for renewable energy, to power our data center with clean, renewable energy. Green-e certifies renewable energy that meets environmental and consumer protection standards that it developed in conjunction with leading environmental, energy and policy organizations.

FAQS

Map Do we need a website? Aren't the Yellow Pages enough?

Yes, these days it is essential to the success of your church to have a website. Potential members moving from another area of the country will find you easier on the Internet. However, your online presence is so much more than just letting new members find you. On your website, you have the opportunity to educate, inform, update, and edify your existing members by providing current information about your church, and upcoming events and announcements. Your church's website also shows that you are keeping up with the times and that you are in touch with the biggest development in communication in decades.

Thumb UpWho is Church of Christ Sites and why should we deal with you?

Church of Christ Sites is an accomplished, member-owned website management company that has created many websites since it's beginning in 2006. As a website developer AND Church of Christ Christian, I understand the needs of both extremely well. We began our business to help any congregation have a web presence on the all important internet.

Having worked with churches of Christ over the years, I realized that there were many with incredible programs but they had terrible websites, or even worse, none at all. Church of Christ Sites was created to give churches an easy and economical means to create and maintain an effective website.

Chart What makes you better than other auto web-creation tools?

Most online automatic website creation utilities are not church specific, and don't have any church designs or graphics. But the truth is that these solutions are a "one size fits all" approach to web design. They all suffer from 2 major disappointments:

  1. THEY DON'T USE PRE-PROGRAMMED GRAPHICS OR PAGES SPECIFIC TO CHRISTIANITY. Usually you'll get some basic options like ABOUT US, CONTACT US, OUR STAFF. Church of Christ Sites has pages specific to Christianity, like SERVICES TIMES, OUR MINISTRIES, CHURCH HISTORY, BIBLE SEARCH and of course you can add your own custom pages.
  2. THEY GIVE YOU AN EMPTY WEBSITE "SHELL" AND YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT THE ADMIN PROCESS TO ADD CONTENT. We are serious when we say that we'll create a complete website. We know that if you have to go to an admin area, or think up content on the spot, the site might not get finished. The hardest thing you'll be asked to do is write a sentence or 2 about your staff and your ministries. However, you can choose to bypass this option and update it later if you wish.

Your time is valuable and your focus is running a church, not learning a complex process or programming HTML. And you'll be able to upload photos of members and events from your computer to your website instantly!

DownloadDo I need any experience to update my website's pages?

If you ever updated a blog, you can administer your website! We have endeavored to make the update process so simple and streamlined that you could actually feel comfortable having a secretary or administrative assistant do the changes for you.

If you can use a word processor, you should be fine. If you want to upload pictures to your website, you will need to have them in a digital format. If you have a digital camera, you're set. If not, you can use a scanner to convert them before uploading.

DatabaseAre your servers safe from disaster and other concerns?

YES! Church of Christ Sites's servers are located in data centers in Kansas.  These state-of-the-art green facility brings you power, connectivity and security unsurpassed in the industry. 55,000 square feet- 5 server rooms provide space for 40,000 servers Excellent 30 Gbit connectivity and high redundant capacity, capable of routing thousands of Tbytes of traffic per month without any data jams Superior energy capabilities of Kansas make it ideally suited to host data intensive operations Additional steel-reinforced walls, fire protection via the combination of an early detection system + FE-25 system + double-interlock pre-action sprinkler system, backbone routers from two different vendors, redundant cooling systems and redundant UPS systems in addition to diesel generators ensure top-of-the-line security so that our servers will continue to operate regardless of external conditions. We also move a copy of all data offsite to a cloud server location constantly. There is 24-hour security and we have technicians monitoring your servers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

FolderWhat different packages are available to our church?

Currently, we offer five different packages depending on your needs and expectations. For a complete explanation of each package and what is included, CLICK HERE.

SettingsWhat other Internet services can you offer us?

In addition to web hosting and development support, Church of Christ Sites also offers customization (for a personalized, custom look), Graphic design, logo conversion and inclusion, domain name registration and transfer, SEO for optimization of you site being searched, social networking consultation and much more.

CloudCan we keep our domain name if we move to your service?

Absolutely! Initially, you will choose a temporary domain name such as www.yourchurchname.churchofchristsite.com during the sign-up process. There will be an option during sign-up or in the administration area after sign-up to request a new domain name OR to transfer in an existing one. Even though your Church of Christ Sites website will be available immediately online, it may take 2-3 days to register your new domain name or for your registrar to complete the transfer modifications.

TagHow come you are not charging more?

When we are approached to develop a website, we discuss two aspects of development:

1. Designing a website with custom graphics, layout, navigation and functionality. This includes adding content and graphics.

2. Hosting their site on our servers where we monitor it 24/7, maintain the connectivity to the Internet, and manage e-mail accounts.

Normally, the basic website available from a website development firm would be sold for approximately $2,500.00 or more. However, this would NOT include the ability for the client to edit or change their content. Adding that functionality would probably double the cost of the site. Premium Church of Christ Sites packages would cost well over $10,000 to develop.

OK, so why are we giving all this to churches for such a low price? Well, obviously we are in business to make some money and we do that by charging a nominal annual fee to maintain your website on our servers.

This fee will depend on the Church of Christ Sites package that you choose, but it usually is cheaper than most regular hosting packages (and these don't even include a website). This fee covers the hosting of your website, access to your password-protected online admin area, administration of your custom e-mail address(es), and FREE unlimited technical support and customer service . . and of course, your congregations web presence!

More FAQS for new customers

If we decide to hire you host the re-make of our site, how do I transfer it from you old hosting company to YOU?

We offer turnkey solutions - that means we will do all of the work for you.  We want you to concentrate on what you do best!

Why is a Website so important to a church?

People may have in the past looked in the yellow pages, or even looked for building for a church home.  Now they will go online.  Just as you need a sign outside your building, you need A GOOD website.  People do not browse for websites they search for them.  Your website will not be found unless you spend some time marketing and optimizing to insure it can be found.  Your website is a focal point for information and contact. Encourage your website to be referred.

Is a Website time consuming?

It can be a one time thing, unless things change, like your address or changes in leadership. To as much time as you want, because content is very important to have any visitors come and stay a while, and for you to provide a service to those who visit.

I don't have a domain name yet, can you get that for me?

Yes. We can register a domain name for you.  It is included in every package.

Do I need to know HTML and all that kind of stuff to have a Website?

Not necessarily. If you use our advanced content Management systems (comes with all plans) you don't need to. You will need to get the hang of the Control Panel, but there is online help available, including videos for each component.

If I go over on my bandwidth do you automatically bump me up to the next package?

No. It is very seldom a customer goes over on bandwidth mainly because our packages have so much of it! for example, the Bronze package has 10GB of monthly traffic. That's 450,000 page views / month! You need a pretty busy website to get that many page views every month.
